Helen F. Siu is a Professor of Anthropology at Yale University and founding director of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University (1981). Her research focuses on agrarian change, China-Africa relations, rural-urban dynamics, and cultural identity in East Asia.
Major affiliations include Yale University’s Department of Anthropology and the Hong Kong Institute, emphasizing interdisciplinary global research. Past roles include former chair of Yale’s Council on East Asian Studies.

Research interests span ethnographic studies of socialism, transnational networks, and contemporary political spaces in Hong Kong. Recent work analyzes China-Africa encounters and inter-Asian connections. She has advised global funding bodies and contributed to policy assessments.
