Tatjana Tchumatchenko

Tatjana Tchumatchenko is a Research Professor leading the Theory of Neural Dynamics group at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt, Germany, with a formal affiliation at the University of Bonn Medical Center's Institute of Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research. She began her research career as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen, followed by a position at Columbia University's Center for Theoretical Neuroscience before establishing her independent research group in 2013.

Her research focuses on computational neuroscience, particularly modeling spiking activity in neurons and neural networks, with recent expansion into dendritic protein distribution along neurons. She combines mathematics, physics and computer science to understand how neurons encode information and organize global dynamics. Her work has established numerous interdisciplinary collaborations worldwide.

Dr. Tchumatchenko has received significant recognition including the prestigious Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz Prize and the Computational Sciences Fellowship from the Volkswagen Foundation. Her research is supported by grants from the Max Planck Society, German Research Foundation (DFG), and Hessian Ministry of Science and Arts.
