Tariq Ramadan is the HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University. He holds senior research fellow positions at St Antony’s College (Oxford) and Doshisha University (Japan). Additionally, he serves as a visiting professor at Qatar’s Faculty of Islamic Studies, directs the Research Centre of Islamic Legislation and Ethics (QCIL) in Qatar, and leads the Brussels-based European Muslim Network (EMN). He is also a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.
Dr. Ramadan’s academic journey includes an M.A. in philosophy and French literature, and a Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva. His research focuses on Islamic theology, the status of Muslims in Western societies, and evolving dynamics in Muslim-majority regions. He has authored influential works such as Islam: A Pelican Introduction and The Arab Awakening: Islam and the New Middle East, with a forthcoming book on Islamic ethics.
His professional affiliations span multiple institutions globally, including advisory roles at think tanks and academic centers. He actively engages in public discourse on contemporary Islamic issues, bridging academic research with societal challenges.
