Hendrik Kockaert is Associate Professor at KU Leuven, Faculty of Arts, where he lectures French linguistics, terminology, legal translation and translation technology on the Antwerp campuses, and simultaneously Full Professor & Director of Translation & Interpreting Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar) since 2018. He is also Research Associate at the University of the Free State (South Africa).
His research concentrates on terminology management, legal translation, translation-quality assessment, and international ISO terminology standards. He coordinates EU projects, co-developed the CAT/revision platform translationQ, edits the Journal of Internationalisation and Localisation, chairs ISO TC 37 SC 1, and acts as certified ECQA trainer and ISO 17100 auditor for translation services.
Recent editorial work includes the 2025 Handbook of Terminology (Arabic edition), the 2023 Handbook of Terminology Vol. 3: Legal Terminology, and special journal issues on ISO standards and ergonomics in translator training. His articles explore legal terminological systems, quality-assessment methods (PIE), globalisation/localisation during COVID-19, and the applicability of ISO standards in institutional settings such as NATO.
