Andreas De Block

Andreas De Block is a Professor at the Institute of Philosophy within KU Leuven, affiliated with the Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science. His research focuses on philosophy of medicine, evolutionary theory, taxonomy, and ethics of science. He critically examines conceptual frameworks in biology and medicine, including debates on mental disorder definitions, taxonomic disputes, and scientific funding practices. De Block has contributed to understanding how values influence scientific classification and ethical judgments in healthcare.

His work spans topics such as the biophilia hypothesis, homosexuality in evolutionary biology, and the ethics of enhancement technologies. He co-leads the Leuven Centre for Health Humanities (LCH²), integrating humanities perspectives into health research.
