Tara Spitzen is a Research Fellow in the Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine. Her research focuses on understanding mechanisms underlying self-injurious thoughts and behaviors, emotion regulation, and suicide risk assessment. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toledo (2023), an MA in Psychology from American University (2018), and a BA in Psychology from Harvard University Extension School (2013).

Research Interests: Tara’s work examines the intersection of emotion regulation strategies, psychopathology, and self-harm behaviors. She investigates how factors like borderline personality disorder symptoms, acquired capability for suicide, and emotional avoidance influence clinical outcomes in high-risk populations. Her research employs both longitudinal and experimental methodologies to inform prevention and intervention strategies.
Publications: Her recent work explores emotion regulation correlates of self-injurious behavior, genetic influences on suicidal ideation, and predictors of nonsuicidal self-injury. These studies highlight interdisciplinary approaches bridging clinical psychology and biomedical research.
