E. David Klonsky is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on suicide prevention, emotion regulation, personality disorders, and clinical assessment, often intersecting within the Ideation-to-Action Framework and the Three-Step Theory (3ST) of suicide.

Research Interests include suicide, borderline personality disorder (BPD), nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), and metascience, with a particular emphasis on developing parsimonious models for suicide risk assessment and understanding emotional dysregulation mechanisms. His lab has contributed to tools like the Multidimensional Emotion Questionnaire (MEQ) and the Inventory of Motivations for Suicide Attempts (IMSA).
Scientific Awards and honors include the UBC Killam Research Prize (2020), Killam Faculty Research Fellowship (2017), and the American Association of Suicidology Edwin S. Shneidman Award (2015). He has also received early career recognition from the American Psychological Association and Association for Psychological Science.
