Tara L. Haas is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology within the Faculty of Science at York University. She is eligible to supervise graduate students in the Biology Graduate Program and leads an active research laboratory focused on vascular biology and angiogenesis.
Her research centers on the molecular regulation of angiogenesis in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, particularly in the contexts of exercise, obesity, diabetes, and peripheral artery disease. A key focus is the role of the transcription factor FoxO1 in suppressing endothelial cell proliferation and metabolism, which contributes to impaired vascular function in metabolic and ischemic conditions. Her work combines molecular, physiological, and transcriptomic approaches to uncover mechanisms that could lead to novel therapeutic strategies.
The recent publications highlight themes in sex-specific vascular responses, microvascular remodeling, leptin signaling, and metabolic regulation of angiogenesis. These studies employ mouse models and molecular techniques to explore how vascular adaptation is impaired or enhanced under disease conditions.
Dr. Haas has made significant contributions to understanding the role of endothelial metabolism in tissue health. Her work bridges physiology, molecular biology, and metabolic disease research.
She collaborates with researchers across disciplines, as evidenced by co-authorship on studies involving transcriptomics, metabolic phenotyping, and vascular imaging. While no formal awards are listed, her publications in high-impact journals such as eLife, Acta Physiologica, and iScience reflect strong scholarly impact. She advises graduate students and leads a research laboratory investigating vascular adaptation mechanisms.
