Tara Knight is an Associate Professor in Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado. A filmmaker, animator, and media designer for live performance, her work bridges technology, art, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is a founding member of Project Planetaria, exploring performance and astrophysics intersections, and has contributed to notable projects like the Mikumentary series and the Emmy-winning performance The Floating World.

Research Interests span experimental animation, participatory media, holographic storytelling, and the fusion of digital art with scientific visualization. Her projects often engage with emerging technologies, such as live holographic concerts, and explore tensions between fan-driven creativity and corporate media frameworks.
Professional Contributions include projection design for theater productions like Hollywood at La Jolla Playhouse and Amazons and their Men at Diversionary Theater. Her dance films have toured internationally, and her Mikumentary series has been showcased at festivals and institutions like the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. She also co-authored a book chapter on Hatsune Miku's holographic concerts.
