Joey Moro is an Associate Professor in the Live Music Production and Design department at Berklee College of Music, based at Berklee NYC. He is a New York–based designer with extensive experience in lighting, projection, scenic design, and production media for over 150 productions across theater, opera, ballet, museums, and corporate events worldwide.
His research and creative interests lie at the intersection of live performance and digital technology. He specializes in projection design, lighting for live events, scenic construction, and live-streamed performance production. Moro has developed custom projection systems and has led the design of socially distanced and virtual performances during the pandemic, including the Live from Elm Court concert series.
His recent design work includes The Rape of Lucretia (Boston Lyric Opera), 72 Miles to Go… (Roundabout Theatre), and the Sunken Cities Exhibit (Virginia Museum of Fine Art). He has also created projection content for dance, opera, and immersive installations.
He has previously taught at Yale School of Drama, NYU Tisch’s Experimental Theater Wing, Syracuse University, and Cornell University, where he founded a projection design program. Moro holds a background in classics and physics from Cornell University, blending technical and artistic disciplines in his pedagogy and practice.
He serves as director of photography and editor for numerous filmed performances and maintains an active creative portfolio through Moro Media and his personal design practice. His work bridges performance, technology, and visual storytelling in innovative ways.
