Amith Chandrashaker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance/Theatre Design and Production at the University of Maryland's College of Arts and Humanities. A professional lighting designer with extensive international experience, he has worked for theater, dance, opera, television, concerts, and events, including off-Broadway productions, Houston Grand Opera, The Joyce Theater, CNN, NBC, Virgin Cruise Ships, and companies like Royal New Zealand Ballet. Prior to UMD, he served as an adjunct professor at Pace University and New York University's Design for Stage and Film program.
Research expertise includes Lighting Design for diverse performance contexts, with a focus on theatrical and event-based applications. He holds a B.F.A. from Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts and an M.F.A. from New York University's Design for Stage and Film program, and currently serves on the executive board of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
