Tao Chen

Tao Chen is an Associate Professor in the Art and Art History Department at Eastern Connecticut State University. His work bridges digital technology and visual communication, with a focus on interdisciplinary screen-based media, digital mixed media expressionism, and contemporary publication design. He holds a B.E. from Beijing Institute of Graphic Communications and an M.F.A. from Louisiana Tech University.

Professor Chen’s research explores cultural and environmental themes through multimedia installations, motion graphics, and collaborative projects. Notable works include the Book of IROKO publication and the multimedia video, addressing ecological preservation and indigenous traditions. His When Night Flows motion graphic was showcased alongside musical performances.

He has exhibited in over 40 juried exhibitions, including the 2018 National Juried Art Show and the Cooperstown Art Association’s annual exhibition. His professional design work includes clients like Comcast and Air China. Chen has been awarded five Connecticut State University faculty research grants.

As an educator, he emphasizes hands-on learning, integrating real-world projects with local nonprofits such as the Willimantic Food Co-op. His teaching spans graphic design, web design, and motion graphics, fostering student creativity and professional readiness.
