Tanja Tomson is an Associate Professor in Public Health Sciences and head of the Prevention - Policy & Practice (PPP) research group at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME). She oversees unit activities, finances, and human resources, with expertise in health policy, prevention science, and implementation strategies. Her work spans EU-funded projects like iHELP ( pancreatic cancer AI research) and CrowdHEALTH (health data platforms), alongside Swedish initiatives like Tobacco Cessation on Prescription (TCP).
Research interests include tobacco prevention, big data applications in healthcare, and global health leadership. She has led the M2Q clinical trial and collaborated with institutions across Europe and LMICs (e.g., Lao PDR). Teaching focuses on transformative learning in public health education, including global initiatives like the 'Leading Change in Higher Education' program at Makerere University.
Her contributions to education include designing master's programs, advocating for inter-professional education, and advancing Karolinska's internationalization strategy through partnerships in China, the US, and Europe. She was previously director of the Centre for Clinical Education and chairs committees promoting sustainable development in healthcare education.
