Tamara Metz

Tamara Metz is a Professor of Political Science and Humanities at Reed College, affiliated with the Division of History and Social Sciences. Her research examines liberal political philosophy, feminist critiques, democratic theory, and the intersection of marriage with state institutions. She is currently investigating care dynamics in diverse liberal democracies.

Publications include Untying the Knot: Marriage, the State and the Case for Their Divorce (Princeton University Press, 2010) and the co-edited volume Justice, Politics, and the Family (Paradigm Press, 2014). Recent articles analyze neoliberal impacts on care and gender equality.

She specializes in pedagogical approaches to thesis advising and has published in journals like Politics & Gender and The Nation.
