Tamara Lea Spira is an Associate Professor at Western Washington University's Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in American Studies and Queer Studies. Her research focuses on feminist studies, critical race and ethnic studies, and decolonial theory. She holds a PhD in History and has published extensively on topics such as reproductive justice, neoliberalism, and transnational queer solidarity. Her work interrogates the intersections of gender, race, and empire, particularly in Latin America and the United States.
Key research interests include the critique of financialized reproductive technologies (e.g., polygenic screening), the legacy of 1970s feminist radicalism, and the decolonial reclamation of revolutionary memory. Spira co-authored the book *Queering Families: Reproductive Justice in Precarious Times* (UC Press), which challenges normative family structures within queer movements.
Her publications span journals like *Signs*, *Feminist Theory*, and *Radical History Review*, and she has engaged in collaborative projects on transnational feminist archives and anti-colonial solidarities. Spira's work often bridges historical analysis with contemporary social justice movements, emphasizing collective care and radical futures beyond neoliberal logics.
