Tamara Bentley is a Professor and Co-Chair in the departments of Art and Asian Studies at Colorado College. Her research focuses on 17th-18th century Chinese and Japanese visual and literary arts, emphasizing cross-cultural exchanges and print culture. She authored a major book on Chen Hongshou's figurative works (2012) and published extensively on early modern art markets and international trade.
Education: Brown University (B.A., 1983), University of Michigan (Ph.D., Asian Art, 2000). Held fellowships at National Central Art Academy (1992-93), Taiwan Fulbright (1994-95), and Freer/Sackler Galleries (1995-96).
Research interests include comparative print cultures, art markets, and the treatment of 'otherness' in early modern art. Active in teaching courses on Asian art history, China-Europe-Japan trade, and interdisciplinary art studies.
Professional service includes roles on the FYE Committee, Curriculum Committee, and I.D.E.A. Space Committee. Her work bridges visual analysis with socio-economic contexts of art production and circulation.
