He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Naples and has held fellowships at the University of Milan, University of Udine, and Max Planck Institute for the History of Science.

His research analyzes Venetian and Roman print cultures, focusing on how economic constraints and political frameworks shaped intellectual exchange.
His publications investigate Renaissance knowledge economies through case studies of publishers' business practices, book circulation patterns, and early copyright mechanisms. Recent work develops digital methodologies for analyzing historical print privileges across European archives.
As part of international collaborations, Ottone contributes to developing databases documenting early modern book trade practices, facilitating comparative studies of knowledge dissemination across European states during the Renaissance period.
