Tally Amir was the Israel Institute Visiting Associate Professor of Sociology at Harvard University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Her research critically examined the legal and socio-economic frameworks governing migration, challenging traditional refugee law to address economic migrants and climate-displaced populations. She held prior positions at Boston University School of Law, Harvard Law School (HLS), Yale University, NYU, and was a senior lecturer at Israel’s College of Law and Business.
Her work emphasized the intersection of global inequality, climate change, and forced migration. She pioneered Israel’s first Legal Clinic for Migrant Rights, advocating for marginalized migrants and documenting human rights abuses in Israel and Palestine. Notably, she organized a fundraiser for a South African migrant facing visa issues and medical hardship.
As an educator, Tally taught courses such as “The Israeli/Palestinian Conflict: Contemporary Socio-Legal Aspects” and “Human Rights in Israel and the United States” at Harvard, earning consistently high student evaluations (Q scores). Her legacy includes bridging academic research with grassroots advocacy, particularly in migrant rights and socio-legal justice.
