Takuya Konishi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Brandon University, Canada. Previously, he held positions as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and the University of Alberta, and a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Alberta's Department of Biological Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. (2009) and B.Sc. (2004) in Paleontology from the University of Alberta.
His research focuses on vertebrate paleontology, particularly the evolution of mosasaurs and other marine reptiles during the Cretaceous. Key areas include Arctic marine ecosystems, morphofunctional adaptations in swimming tetrapods, and mosasaur systematics. He has conducted fieldwork in the Anderson River Formation of Canada's Northwest Territories, supported by grants from the Polar Continental Shelf Program and National Geographic Society.
His work has advanced understanding of mosasaur anatomy, phylogeny, and paleoecology through detailed osteological analyses. Notable contributions include describing new species and re-evaluating taxonomic and ontogenetic patterns in mosasaurs. He collaborates with institutions like the Royal Tyrrell Museum and publishes in journals such as Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology and PLOS ONE.
Teaching includes undergraduate courses like Human & Comparative Anatomy and Professional Skills in Biology. His research integrates fieldwork, morphological analysis, and computational techniques to explore Cretaceous marine biodiversity.
