Dr. David Schwimmer is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at Columbus State University, specializing in the paleontology of Eastern and Southeastern United States with emphasis on Cretaceous and Cambrian vertebrate fossils.
His educational background includes:
- BS in Geology from University of Wisconsin (1967)
- MA in Geology from University at Buffalo (1969)
- PhD in Paleontology from Stony Brook University (1973)
Dr. Schwimmer's research spans vertebrate paleontology, Cambrian biostratigraphy, and Cretaceous paleoecology. After initial work on Cambrian trilobites in northwest Georgia, he expanded to Cretaceous deposits in South Georgia, discovering numerous regionally unreported fossils including crocodylians, dinosaurs, sharks, bony fish, flying reptiles, and marine reptiles. His publication record exceeds 40 journal articles, two academic books, and a monograph. Current projects include a book on Southeastern dinosaurs and collaborative research on Late Cretaceous microvertebrates with the United States National Museum (USNM) and American Museum of Natural History (AMNH).
