Takeo Hoshi is a Professor at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Economics since 2019. Previously, he held positions at Stanford University as a Senior Fellow and at the University of California, San Diego as a Professor. His research focuses on financial aspects of the Japanese economy, corporate finance, monetary and banking policies, and macroeconomic policy. He has conducted extensive work on Japan's financial crises, banking sector reforms, and the impact of policies like Abenomics. Hoshi has received notable awards, including the Reischauer International Education Award (2011) and the Nakahara Prize (2005).
His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT (1988). He has collaborated internationally, including visits to the France-Japan Foundation (EHESS) and participation in workshops on institutional change in Asia. His research often bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis of Japan's unique economic challenges, such as sovereign debt sustainability and post-crisis recovery strategies.
Hoshi's publications span journals like the American Economic Review and IMF Economic Review, addressing topics such as zombie lending, fiscal policy sustainability, and global financial crises.
