Brieuc Monfort is a Lecturer at Sophia University's Faculty of Foreign Studies since 2017, specializing in Japanese economic policy and institutional analysis. He previously held roles at INSEE (2001-2004), the International Monetary Fund (2004-2009), and served as Deputy Director of the Economic Section at the French Embassy in Japan (2009-2013). His research focuses on the Japanese economy, diversity of capitalisms, and institutional changes, particularly in relation to advanced economies.
Research collaborations include the France-Japan Foundation (FFJ) as an associate researcher and coordinator of the FFJ/Banque de France scholarship. Notable outputs include co-authored works like Lessons from the Japanese Experience (2016) and articles on Abenomics and EU integration. He also contributes to FFJ publications and media commentary, such as the interview The Endless Crisis of the Japanese Economy (BFM Business).
His work bridges macroeconomic policy analysis with institutional comparisons, emphasizing lessons from Japan’s economic trajectory for other advanced economies. Current affiliations include the Center for European Research at Sophia University and FFJ’s research axis on capitalist diversity.
