Takafumi Ide is a Lecturer in the Department of Art at Stony Brook University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He also serves as an Instructional Support Technician in the same department. Ide holds a B.A. in Graphic Design from Tama Art University (Tokyo, 1989) and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from Stony Brook University (2007). His work focuses on interdisciplinary media art, blending sound and light installations to explore contemporary themes.
His research interests include Digital Art, Media Art, and interactive installations. Notable projects include threshold (2021, exhibited at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park) and debacle (2015, featured in the NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival). Ide has been invited to major events like the Nakanojo Biennale (2017–2021) and Wave Hill’s site-responsive installations (2017).
- Awards: Sculpture Space Fellowship, SOS Program Grant (NYFA), and multiple residencies funded by arts foundations.
His career spans over 10 years as a graphic designer and illustrator in Japan before transitioning to fine art post-9/11. Ide advises no students but actively engages in grants and exhibitions.
