Patricia Maurides is a Professor of Art at Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences, specializing in interdisciplinary art and science studies. She holds an M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of South Carolina. Her work explores themes of memory, identity, and environmental science through photography, performance, and installation艺术. She previously served as Academic Director of Carnegie Mellon's interdisciplinary degree programs (BHA/BSA) from 1999-2007. Awards include the Chancellor's Award for Teaching (2021) and grants from The Nature Conservancy and NYFA. Her research bridges art with neuroscience, biology, and ecology, exemplified by courses like Art+theBrain and Art+Biology.
Key collaborations include exhibitions at Carnegie Mellon's Miller Gallery (2014) and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (2025). She co-authored influential work in Leonardo journal and curated exhibitions such as Neurons and Other Memories. Recent projects include the Seeing Happiness book with the East End Special Players and the Flows of Reflectivity exhibition addressing glacier ecology and albedo effects.
