Taeyoung Hwang

Taeyoung Hwang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and an Investigator at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development. His research integrates genomics and computational biology to study the regulatory roles of noncoding RNAs in brain development and neurological disorders.

His research focuses on gene regulation through noncoding RNAs, particularly how their dysregulation contributes to brain development abnormalities and psychiatric diseases. His lab develops and applies cutting-edge genomic tools such as MPRNA-IP to map RNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms and assess the impact of genetic risk variants on RNA-protein interactions and subcellular RNA localization in neurons.

The recent publications from his lab demonstrate strong engagement in RNA-centric mechanisms in neurodevelopment, with a focus on high-throughput functional assays and computational genomics. The work spans molecular neuroscience, regulatory genomics, and psychiatric genetics, indicating a multidisciplinary approach to understanding brain disorders.
