Sébastien Mena is a Research Fellow at the Hertie School, where he was previously a Professor of Organization & Governance (2020–2024). His research focuses on the role of business in society, emphasizing sustainability and democracy through an organizational sociology lens. He examines interactions between corporations, civil society, and NGOs, studying how these dynamics shape norms around corporate responsibility, sustainable development, and global governance. His work spans diverse contexts, including commodity supply chains in Sub-Saharan Africa, textile industries in Southeast Asia, sustainable banking in the UK, and alternative food systems in Germany.
Professionally, Mena has held academic roles at City, University of London (UK), the University of Alberta (Canada), and the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). He serves as an Associate Editor of Business & Society and contributes to editorial boards of management and organization studies journals. His research is published in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Human Relations, and Journal of Management Studies.
Mena’s work bridges theoretical contributions and practical collaborations, addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
