Dr. Symeon Siniossoglou is a Principal Investigator and researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR), affiliated with the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge. His work bridges lipid metabolism, membrane dynamics, and organelle biology, focusing on how cells partition lipids between membrane synthesis and energy storage in lipid droplets.
His research explores the molecular mechanisms of lipid homeostasis, including phospholipid synthesis, membrane expansion, and the role of lipid dysregulation in pathologies such as obesity and neurodegenerative diseases. Key areas of interest include organelle regeneration (e.g., lysosomes, ER) and the interplay between lipid signaling and cellular stress responses.
Funded by the BBSRC, Dr. Siniossoglou investigates processes like the V-ATPase assembly cycle, autophagy regulation via Transferrin Receptor, and lipid phase coupling on lysosomal membranes. His lab employs biochemical, structural, and cellular approaches to dissect these pathways.
