Sylvia Rich is an Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law, where she teaches Jurisprudence, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Sentencing Theory and Practice. She holds a B.A. from Concordia University, an LL.B./B.C.L. from McGill University, and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where her doctoral work on corporate-entity crime was co-supervised by John Gardner and Julian Roberts.

Her research focuses on criminal law, corporate malfeasance, and philosophical/sociological aspects of legal responsibility. She has secured grants from SSHRC and Fonds de recherche Québec, with publications in Jurisprudence, Canadian Journal of Law and Society, and related journals.
She previously taught at Oxford's Christ Church College and St Catharine’s College, clerked for Justice Ian Binnie at the Supreme Court of Canada, and worked in litigation at a New York law firm and Canadian public service policy roles.
