Sven Waldzus is a Full Professor at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, affiliated with the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (ECSH). He is also an Integrated Researcher at CIS-Iscte's Center for Social Research and Intervention, focusing on the PsyChange group (Psychology of Societal Change). His academic qualifications include a PhD (1999) and Master's (1993) in Psychology from the University of Jena, and an Aggregation in Psychology from ISCTE-IUL (2011).
His research examines intergroup dynamics, social identity, diversity, and cross-cultural adaptation. Key interests include:
- Social cognition in intergroup conflicts
- Psychological mechanisms of societal change
- Cross-cultural adaptation processes
- Diversity in organizational contexts
- Relational models in group interactions
Waldzus leads the Global-MINDS Erasmus Mundus program, which integrates Social and Cultural Psychology to address migration, inclusion, and sustainability. His publications emphasize social mindfulness, collective action, identity leadership, and the psychological impacts of societal structures. A consistent theme is how group identities shape behavior in diverse cultural and organizational settings.
He advises doctoral and master's students in psychology, with mentorship spanning intercultural relations, social identity, and organizational behavior. As an academic leader, he has served as Ethics Committee President and coordinated multiple degree programs.
