Joana Alexandre is an Assistant Professor at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, affiliated with the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology (ECSH) and the CIS-Iscte Center for Social Research and Intervention. Her work focuses on community psychology, child protection, and socio-emotional learning. She holds degrees from the University of Coimbra (Clinical Psychology) and ISCTE (Social Psychology), with international research experience at Flinders University, Australia.
She has held leadership roles such as Director of the Master's in Community Psychology and Protection of Children and Young People at Risk, President of ISCTE's Pedagogical Council (2019-2023), and currently chairs the Ethics Committee in Psychology. Her research emphasizes social intervention evaluations, including projects like Crescer a Tempo Inteiro (Municipality of Cascais) and international initiatives like the OECD socio-emotional skills study.
Notable contributions include developing prevention tools like the board game Picos e Avelã to address child sexual abuse and collaborating on EU projects such as GRIT (Urban Education Diversity). She received the 2020 OPP Southern Career Award for her work in clinical and community psychology.
Joana also advises organizations including the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and serves on boards like CSIS Child Safeguarding in Sport. Her current projects include monitoring programs for sexual violence prevention (VITA Group) and evaluating family support systems (SCML).
