Suzanne Orr is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Kansas State University's College of Arts and Sciences, specializing in twentieth-century American history with emphases on immigration and gender studies. Her work critically examines immigrant identity formation and the role of family structures in U.S. immigration policy frameworks.
Dr. Orr received her PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 2010. Her current book project investigates how immigrant communities, particularly Russian-speaking radicals, organized social movements against government surveillance and mass deportations during the First Red Scare (1919-1920). She also co-edited a special issue of the Journal of the West (Winter 2014) on immigration and adaptation with Jeff Crane, reflecting her sustained engagement with migration narratives.
Prior to her faculty appointment, she served as managing editor of Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains. Her academic office is located in 201B Calvin Hall, and she maintains professional correspondence via sorr1@ksu.edu.
