Nadia Oweidat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Kansas State University's College of Arts and Sciences. Her research examines modern Middle Eastern intellectual history, Islamic reform movements, and digital activism in Arab societies.
Research focuses on:
- Liberal reinterpretations of Islamic tradition
- Digital media in social movements
- Historical development of Islamic thought
- Arab-world intellectual networks
Her book 'Reform and Its Perils in Contemporary Islam' analyzes challenges facing Muslim intellectuals reconciling religious traditions with liberal values. Current research investigates social media's role in challenging authoritarian narratives and expanding discourse boundaries in Arab societies.
Dr. Oweidat teaches courses on Modern Middle East History, Islamic History, and Intellectual History of the Middle East. Her work has been supported by the Smith Richardson Foundation and Wilson Center.
