Suzanne Johnson is a Lecturer in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester, serving as Division lead for Social Responsibility. She specializes in cancer research, particularly focusing on extracellular vesicles (EVs) in cancer biology and their role in tumor microenvironment interactions. She is Programme Director for the online MSc Transformative Oncology and Unit Lead for Solid Tumours (2) in the STP Cancer Genomics course.
Education: BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences, MSc Molecular Pathology & Toxicology, PhD in Breast Cancer in Younger Women (2002).
Research interests include EV-mediated communication between cancer and normal cells, health equity, and community engagement in cancer research. She chairs initiatives like the MCRC ACED Alliance and the Women in Cancer network, promoting inclusivity and diversity in academia. Notable awards include the 2017 Exceptional Performance Award and MRC funding.
She collaborates with Manchester Cancer Research Centre and Greater Manchester Cancer, organizing public engagement events such as Science Spectacular and CRUK Relay for Life. Her work addresses health disparities and advocates for culturally competent research practices.
