معرفی
Professor Kaye Williams is a leading academic in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry at the University of Manchester, holding the Chair in Experimental Therapeutics and Imaging. She serves as Deputy Director of CRUK RadNET Manchester, Pre-clinical Lead for Oncology Imaging in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, and Co-chair of the University of Manchester Preclinical Imaging Executive (PrIME). Her career spans over 25 years, transitioning from MRC Research Associate to tenured academic and Professor in 2012.
- PhD in Molecular Biology (University of Manchester, 1997)
- BSc First Class Honors in Molecular Biology (University of Manchester, 1993)
Kaye's research focuses on the tumour microenvironment, particularly hypoxia, and its therapeutic targeting to enhance radiotherapy outcomes. She pioneers pre-clinical imaging for oncology applications, developing image-derived biomarkers to assess tumour biology and therapeutic response. Her work bridges molecular mechanisms and clinical translation, underpinning ongoing trials at The Christie Hospital and nationally.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to drug-radiation synergy (e.g., angiotensin inhibitors), intestinal toxicity mitigation via CCR2, and hypoxia imaging using Oxygen-Enhanced MRI. She leads high-impact projects like the MAESTRO Programme (CRUK RadNET) and CXCR4/CXCR7 receptor targeting in breast cancer.
- Scientific Awards
- British Association for Cancer Research/AstraZeneca Frank Rose Young Scientist Award (2005)
- MRC National Productivity Investment Fund PhD Studentship (2017)
As an MPharm Unit Lead and External Teacher at institutions like the University of Oxford and The Institute of Cancer Research, she mentors students and specialists in radiobiology and cancer therapy. She also spearheads equality and diversity initiatives, chairing the Athena Swan Self Assessment team.
