Susie Nash is the Deborah Loeb Brice Professor of Renaissance Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art. She specializes in late medieval and Renaissance art of Northern Europe, particularly focusing on material analysis, technical art history, and courtly patronage. Her research centers on the Valois courts of France, examining inventories, art objects, and their cultural significance. She has held a Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship (2016–2018) and authored influential works on Burgundian art, Claus Sluter’s sculpture, and manuscript illumination.
Her research interests include materials science, sculpture polychromy, and the intersection of art and political power. Notable publications include Late Medieval Panel Paintings (2015) and Northern Renaissance Art (2008). She supervises PhD students in areas such as Burgundian textiles, manuscript iconography, and metalwork crosses.
Nash’s articles explore topics like Philip the Bold’s tombs, the de Limbourg brothers’ work, and the Seilern Triptych. Her work frequently bridges art-historical analysis with material and technical evidence, emphasizing the physical object’s role in understanding historical context.
