Douglas Brine is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Trinity University since 2009. His research focuses on visual arts in Northern Europe during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, particularly sculpture, painting, and metalwork in the Low Countries. He also explores the Gothic Revival in 19th-century England and the work of Augustus Pugin.

His doctoral work examined Netherlandish wall-mounted epitaphs and their links to painters like Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden. Current research investigates brass/bronze sculpture dissemination in 15th-16th century Netherlands. Secondary interests include Gothic Revival and Pugin's theories.
Recent publications analyze Pugin's interpretations of Dürer, liturgical lecterns, and musician memorials in Burgundian Netherlands. Articles span 2007-2020, covering topics from votive reliefs to commemorative practices.
