Sushmita Choudhury is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle's School of Law and Justice, affiliated with the College of Human and Social Futures. She is a PhD candidate at Newcastle Law School researching farmers’ rights in Bangladesh, supported by the Vice Chancellor’s Higher Degree by Research Training Program Scholarship (2020). Her work bridges legal frameworks and community voices to address challenges posed by agricultural commercialization.
Qualifications include a Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her research interests span human rights law, intellectual property rights, and climate displacement, with a focus on marginalized communities. She has published on statelessness in enclaves (recognized by UNHCR), Rohingya refugees, and climate migration advocacy.
Grants: Co-investigator on the 2024 'Co-designing Resources to Support the Legal Literacy of Refugees' grant ($7,000). Awards: Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship (2020). Experience: Human Rights Program Specialist at Relief International USA, addressing human trafficking; participant in the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
