Prof. Susanne Baer is a tenured Professor of Public Law and Gender Studies at Humboldt University Berlin (since 2002) and a Justice at Germany's Federal Constitutional Court (since 2011). Her roles include Director of the Law & Society Institute (LSI) and former Vice President for Academic Affairs at Humboldt University. She holds a LL.M. from the University of Michigan and has held visiting roles at institutions worldwide, including the University of Bielefeld and the Central European University Budapest.
Education & Awards: She earned her doctorate (summa cum laude) in 1995 and habilitation in 2006. Notable awards include the 2002 Good Teaching Award and the Walter Kolb Memorial Prize. She has held fellowships at the Swiss Academy of Humanities and the Vienna Institute of Human Sciences.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on intersectional equality, constitutional law, gender studies, and antidiscrimination law. Key areas include legal approaches to multidimensional discrimination, transnational legal frameworks, and the role of constitutional courts in contemporary challenges.
Projects: She leads initiatives like the OPERA in QUING project on gender equality policies and the Humboldt Law Clinic for Human Rights. Her work spans collaborations with EU institutions, the German Federal Ministry of Education, and international universities.
Awards & Recognition: Her scholarly contributions include over 200 publications on constitutionalism, gender, and legal theory. She has advised governments on implementing EU antidiscrimination directives and gender mainstreaming strategies.
