Prof. Susan Baer is a Professor of Public Law and Gender Studies at Humboldt University of Berlin. She holds the Caroline von Humboldt Professorship and has been a prominent figure in feminist legal studies, anti-discrimination law, and comparative constitutionalism. Previously, she served as a Judge at the Federal Constitutional Court (2011–2023) and as Vice President of Humboldt University (2010–2011). Her research focuses on constitutional practices, interdisciplinary legal research, and gender equality, particularly through projects like the Humboldt Law Clinic for Fundamental and Human Rights and the Integrative Research Institute Law and Society (LSI).
Education: Multiple honorary doctorates, including from JKU Linz (2025). Awards include the Caroline von Humboldt Professorship (2012) and recognition for contributions to legal theory and gender studies.
Research interests span feminist jurisprudence, intersectional discrimination, and judicial roles in democracy. She co-leads the DFG-funded research group 'Law-Gender-Collectivity' and collaborates internationally on projects like the Feminist Legal History Network. Her work emphasizes legal sociology and the societal impact of law.
