Susann Fiedler is a Professor at Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Vienna University of Economics and Business), where she leads a research group investigating the cognitive processes of human decision-making in organizations. Her work integrates insights from psychology, behavioral economics, and organizational behavior to understand how individuals make decisions in moral and social contexts.
Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind human judgment and choice, particularly in dilemmas involving ethics and social consequences. Using process-tracing methodologies, she explores what drives motivation in decision-making and how decision environments can be structured to support more authentic and informed choices. This includes applications in organizational design, policy-making, and behavioral interventions.
Susann Fiedler has been actively involved in academic service, contributing to the governance and integrity of her field. She has served as Member at Large for the European Association for Decision Making (EADM), Ombudsperson for the German Psychological Society, and Associate Editor for high-impact journals such as Science Advances. These roles reflect her leadership and commitment to ethical standards and scholarly excellence.
She earned her academic foundation with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Erfurt, followed by a Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods. In 2014, she became Head of the Gielen-Leyendecker Research Group at the same institute, marking an early leadership role in her career. She has also held visiting research fellowships at the University of California, the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, and the University of Hagen, demonstrating international collaboration and recognition.
Susann Fiedler is currently building a new research group at Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, signaling ongoing and future contributions to the science of decision-making.
