Susan Smith is an Associate Professor at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), where she has been a founding faculty member since 2012. She holds a BSc in Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno (2000), a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Creighton University (2004), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education with a focus on curriculum and teaching.
Her clinical expertise spans pediatrics, neurology, and orthopedics, with a specialization in pediatric physical therapy (Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatrics since 2010). She actively researches infant-powered mobility and the benefits of babywearing for children with special needs. Professionally, she serves as the Texas State Representative for the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy and is an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities through roles like Clinical Director of the Special Olympics FUNfitness program.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating integrated pediatric content and leading the Professional Critical Self-Reflection Series. She also contributes to service initiatives at UIW and in the broader community.
