Susan Silveira is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the Macquarie School of Education, Macquarie University, where she teaches in the Master of Disability Studies program and serves as its Course Director. She holds academic appointments in disability studies and maintains an active role in vision impairment research through her management of the Australian Childhood Vision Impairment Register at NextSense Institute. Her professional qualifications include a PhD from Macquarie University (2019), a Master of Health Sciences Education from the University of Sydney, and diplomas in Orthoptics.
Her research focuses on childhood vision disorders, disability models, and inclusive infrastructure design. Notable projects include collaborations on inclusive playground initiatives with Japan and the ACT Government's Inclusive Education Professional Learning programs. She concurrently serves as Director of Cataract Kids Australia and represents Australia in the International Orthoptic Association. Key themes in her work include bridging medical and social disability frameworks, enhancing accessibility for visually impaired children, and improving healthcare outcomes through interdisciplinary approaches.
