Associate Professor Kathleen Tait is affiliated with Macquarie University's Macquarie School of Education and the Special Education Centre (MUSEC). With 30 years of international experience across the UK, Brunei, Hong Kong, and Australia, her work focuses on special education, cross-cultural disability studies, and inclusive practices. She has published over 190 works, including 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and 15 conference papers, and edited the Oxford University Press textbook Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement.
Research areas include communication disorders, family impact of disability, and culturally sensitive interventions. She leads projects on inclusive playground design, healthcare needs of disability carers, and AI readiness in health education. Awards include the Advance Higher Education Senior Fellowship (2018) and a Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award (2022).
Her international collaborations include roles with the IASSIDD Academy and PIMD Special Interest Group, and she advises on projects in Japan, Europe, and Australia. She has supervised 25 postgraduate students and secured over AUD$2 million in research funding, including an AUD$440,500 ARC Discovery grant.
Key contributions include advancing inclusive education policy, developing culturally appropriate assessment tools, and advocating for accessible infrastructure. Current work addresses playground accessibility for vision-impaired children and cross-cultural family support strategies.
