Susan McWilliams Barndt is a Professor at Pomona College and the 2025-2026 William F. Podlich Distinguished Fellow in Government at Claremont McKenna College. Her work bridges American Political Thought, Political Philosophy, and Politics and Literature.
- Education: B.A. in Political Science and Russian from Amherst College (1998); M.A. (2002) and Ph.D. (2006) in Politics from Princeton University; Certificate in Advanced Educational Leadership from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
Her research explores political philosophy, politics and popular culture, and liberal arts education, with a focus on civic engagement and global political theory. Her publications include books on the American road trip as a political metaphor and James Baldwin's political thought, reflecting interdisciplinary trends in political science and humanities.
