Susan H. Farbstein is a Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard Law School. Her work focuses on corporate accountability, transitional justice, and gender equity in human rights advocacy. She holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School (2004), an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge (2001), and a B.A. from Princeton University (2000). Farbstein has been recognized for her leadership in cases like Mamani v. Sanchez de Lozada and Wiwa v. Shell, advancing accountability for human rights abuses.
Her research spans corporate complicity in human rights violations, post-conflict justice in South Africa, and gender equality in legal institutions. Farbstein’s clinic addresses global issues including armed conflict protection, climate justice, and social/economic rights advocacy. She has authored influential publications on the Alien Tort Statute, historical legal cases, and judicial perspectives.
Awardees include the Harvard President’s Innovation Fund and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s Top Women of Law. Farbstein’s legal teams collaborate with international organizations to design strategies for litigation, policy reform, and survivor assistance in regions like South Sudan, Zimbabwe, and The Gambia.
