Dr. Susan Chapman is an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences at Clemson University's College of Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Neurobiology from King's College London (2002) and B.Sc. degrees in Neuroscience (UCL) and Science (Open University).
Her research integrates paleontology and developmental biology to study avian evolution from dinosaurs to modern birds, focusing on skeletal adaptations like the transition from long to short tails and fusion events in the axial skeleton. Her work examines inflammation-driven processes in bone fracture healing and disease conditions like Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Recent publications demonstrate a focus on avian skeletal evolution, inflammation mechanisms in developmental processes, and Mesozoic adaptations. She teaches courses including Dinosaurs to Birds, Biology in the News, and Senior Seminar.
