Susan Buell is a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences at the University of Dundee's School of Health Sciences. She is affiliated with the Living Well with Long-Term Conditions (LWLTC) and Healthy Active Ageing Research (HAAR) groups. Her research focuses on inclusive communication practices for individuals with intellectual disabilities, accessibility of health information, and digital health participation.
Dr. Buell's work emphasizes participatory methodologies and co-production approaches in research. Key areas include the development of 'easy read' health materials, analysis of linguistic simplification techniques, and exploration of digital inclusion barriers for marginalized populations. She has conducted studies on communication support for children with profound disabilities, pain evaluation in Saudi Arabian contexts, and LGBTQ+ inclusion in aging with intellectual disabilities.
Her recent projects include the INCLUDEAGE initiative examining online community participation and the Our Digital Health collaboration to measure barriers in digital health access. Buell has contributed to global health discourse through analyses of communication challenges in low-resource settings like Bolivia and Kenya.
Though no formal grants or student advisement records are listed, her extensive publication record (over 40 articles from 2008-2025) demonstrates sustained engagement with disability studies, health communication, and methodological innovation in inclusive research practices.
