Susan B. Long is an Associate Professor of Managerial Statistics at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University, and heads the Civic Research Data Lab (CRDL). Her work focuses on leveraging the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to analyze federal government records through advanced statistical methods and data mining tools. She co-founded the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) in 1989 and previously directed the Center for Tax Studies at Syracuse University.
Long has held visiting roles at the National Institute of Justice (Department of Justice) and the Center for Engineering Information, City University of London. She frequently testifies before Congress on government program evaluations and has been recognized with prestigious awards for her advocacy in civil liberties and transparency.
Her current research emphasizes database reliability, measurement techniques, and user-friendly data analysis tools for non-statisticians. She leads interdisciplinary teams collaborating with journalists, policymakers, and researchers to assess federal policies.
