Professor Supriya Garikipati serves as Full Professor in Sustainable Development and Director of the UCD Centre for Sustainable Development at University College Dublin's School of Politics and International Relations. With over two decades of experience, she is a development economist specializing in the intersection of gender, public policy, and inclusive innovation. Her work has been internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary contributions to sustainable development, particularly focusing on India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Garikipati's research spans gender equity, financial inclusion, rural labor markets, and reproductive health. Her work combines feminist political economy with interdisciplinary methods to examine how entrenched structures like patriarchy and digital exclusion affect women's agency, livelihoods, and leadership in low-resource settings. Current projects investigate digital and agricultural innovations for women farmers, intersections of WASH and reproductive health with gendered violence, digital exclusion, and gendered trajectories in entrepreneurship. She has led major research programs funded by UKRI, British Academy, DFID, Nuffield Foundation, Science Foundation Ireland, and the World Bank.
