Dr Fran Amery is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies at the University of Bath. She is part of the Centre for Development Studies and the Centre for Qualitative Research. Previously, she taught at the University of Bristol and University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on contemporary feminist politics, including intra-feminist debates, organized transphobia, and menstrual justice. She is co-authoring a book on period politics (Policy Press) and authored Beyond Pro-Life and Pro-Choice (2020), examining UK abortion politics. Amery co-leads the Reactionary Politics Research Network and chairs the Queer Frontiers network.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality and health. Key research areas include feminist confrontations with reactionary movements, menstrual equity in global health policy, and gender equity in academia. She leads projects funded by EU Horizon 2020 and UK research councils, focusing on menstrual justice in low-income countries, Nepal’s menstrual policies, and the impact of gender-critical rhetoric on policy.
